For 8+ years (and counting), we’ve been partnering with Avi-on as their complete development team for a revolutionary bluetooth mesh lighting controls platform with a myriad of home devices in the market and a leadership position in the commercial/industrial space due to the platform’s unique scalability.
Simply put, the most advanced, scalable, easy to use/setup, secure and cost-effective wireless lighting controls, with over 500,000 nodes installed. Easy enough for simple home users, but powerful enough to scale to multi-thousand device installations. Devices include intelligent switches, sensors, industrial grade fixture controllers, and more. Platform is backed by state-of-the-art, scale-proven cloud services, and fronted by top-notch user apps for both end users and installers.
At the core of the project's revolutionary, no-gateway, high-scale proven IoT network is the BLE mesh, a technology that allows multicast and extended range for bluetooth devices. This technology, and our implementation of it, are essential to support fast, reliable, multi-thousand device setups for which other solutions based on Wi-Fi, Zigbee, etc. are not able to scale.
Our firmware team started working on the BLE mesh when it was still at an experimental stage and helped pioneer the current Bluetooth-certified standard.
During our journey, we made active contributions together with the Bluetooth SIG to the standard itself and with Avi-on on several of their current patented technologies.
To support a network of over half a million connected devices, we created a microservices, federated cloud platform that is ready to scale. Combining RESTful and socket-based interfaces with asynchronous message-queue communication and an AWS container-based deployment, we built a cloud that is the foundation for the platform’s ability to provide security, provisioning, automated setup, telemetry and monitoring that is field proven from small homes to multi-thousand commercial/industrial installations.
We designed and developed the two flagship applications on the platform. The end-user, mobile application lets everyday users easily claim, control, and program their devices with just a few taps. The “pro” desktop/tablet application, aimed for installers, allows one to easily configure and provision thousands of devices on commercial/industrial setups with a simple process that properly integrates with the building plan.
In both cases, we researched and carefully crafted a tailored UX that properly suits each target user while remaining compliant to the UI standards of each OS (iOS/Android).
Throughout more than 8 years of ongoing partnership, we helped our customer walk the path from a small startup to a leading player on both the home and commercial/industrial spaces.
A path that included the exploration of revolutionary technology, issuing several key IP patents, but most importantly, creating a world class product that reaches hundreds of thousands of devices and has been field tested for scale.
We built a platform connecting indigenous communities with nature stewardship projects, creating quantifiable biodiversity credits for ESG.
